Trail Characteristics

The PHNST corridor in Northern Virginia currently runs from southern Prince William County to the Town of Leesburg as a braided network with a primary trail path as well as several branch trails that serve as spur routes and alternative loops to provide access to scenic areas, parks, and attractions.

As a whole, the trail embraces portions of Arlington, Loudoun, Fairfax, and Prince William Counties, the City of Alexandria, and the Towns of Dumfries, Leesburg, and Occoquan. Certain portions of the PHNST are also incorporated into other regional trail networks, including the Mount Vernon Trail and Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail.
